The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by the agency are administered within the District. This role involves supporting the District Forester with the delivery of Field Operation programs, including tasks such as preparing tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, direct interaction with clientele, drafting management plans, capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention, and special projects. The specialist will also serve as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis, operating heavy firefighting equipment, using hand firefighting tools, and performing ground reconnaissance on wildfires. The position requires managing and accounting for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in good working order and properly serviced. The employee must meet and annually maintain a physical fitness standard, which includes successfully completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack, and obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification. The role demands 24-hour availability for emergency response, requiring a response to a dispatcher within 30 minutes of notification. The work environment involves operating heavy equipment with exposure to vibrations and noise, harsh environmental conditions, and physically demanding tasks such as walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and driving for long distances. It may also involve working long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions and exposure to emotionally stressful situations.
