About The Position

The Resource Development Senior Manager is responsible for the overall advancement of The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia Operations (TSA GPO). This position will collaborate with Divisional staff responsible for the fund development and community relations efforts relating to TSA GPO. Where necessary, the Resource Development Senior Manager will hire, train, and supervise staff responsible for key Salvation Army priorities in the city of Philadelphia. This role will work closely with staff and officer members of TSA GPO administration team, Corps Community Centers, and Philadelphia Social Service Ministries (PSSM) sites and programs, while responsibly managing the resources allocated to TSA GPO. Finally, the Resource Development Senior Manager will manage a number of key stakeholder relationships warranting special care and attention from executive staff of TSA GPO.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in public relations, marketing, or comparable field.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Highly creative, detail-oriented, accurate, organized, analytical, flexible, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Well versed in constituent and community relations.
  • Must be computer proficient, able to easily and effectively use email, Microsoft Office applications, Google Suite, and donor and volunteer management software.
  • Must demonstrate good judgement, leadership characteristics and work well as part of a team.
  • Able to work effectively and in harmony with officers, staff and volunteers.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel as needed, flexible on scheduling (including attendance at early morning, evening or weekend meetings/events.)
  • Adherence to the AFP Code of Ethics.
  • Adherence to TSA's Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an advancement strategy for the Greater Philadelphia Area Command of The Salvation Army, Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division (EPA);
  • Become an expert in The Salvation Army’s mission, and the local facilities, programs, and people responsible for making that mission a reality in Philadelphia.
  • Collaborate with Divisional and local leadership to ensure local fundraising efforts fit within the strategy of the larger Divisional plan.
  • Provide leadership to a team of Development professionals tasked with Philadelphia-specific advancement opportunities.
  • Liaise with EPA Divisional Advancement staff, advocating for Greater Philadelphia’s needs where necessary.
  • Collect and report on all sources of income related to development for TSA GPO, including but not limited to: Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Corporate Partnerships, Government Affairs, and Foundations
  • Maintain, track, and regularly report on the Greater Philadelphia Development Budget and associated departmental budgets.
  • Manage the operations of the Greater Philadelphia Advisory Board; deepening relationships with current and potential board members to ensure retention, recruitment, and holistic engagement with all members.
  • Serve as staff liaison for the Development Committee of the Greater Philadelphia Advisory Board, guiding strategy and preparation for each committee meeting.
  • Oversee the design of marketing materials, including the Greater Philadelphia Annual Report utilizing the appropriate vendors and Divisional staff when necessary.
  • Serve on Greater Philadelphia’s Comprehensive Campaign Committee, establishing a rapport with key stakeholders internal and external.
  • Following the completion of the Campaign, assume full responsibility for the smooth transition of donors, committee members, and other stakeholders into the general operations of The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia.
  • Serve as the Greater Philadelphia Salvation Army’s spokesperson when necessary, representing The Salvation Army with professionalism and in a mission-worthy manner.
  • Provide content to Public Relations and Marketing team related to check presentations, special announcements, high profile events, etc.
  • Develop a steady stream of newsworthy, high impact leads for stories to be shared with the Public Relations team for the production of earned, owned, and paid media opportunities.
  • Oversee the development and direction of social media to engage audiences across traditional and new platforms.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Greater Philadelphia special events, such as the Celebrate Hope Annual Luncheon and Red Kettle Kickoff.
  • Work closely with colleagues and team members to methodically and proactively develop strong relationships between The Salvation Army and Greater Philadelphia corporations to promote seasonal initiatives, assistance in the solicitation of corporate grants, gifts in kind, special events sponsorships, and cause-related marketing partnerships and corporate volunteerism.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, ensuring the development of a positive, uplifting, and collaborative office culture
  • Serves on various community boards, councils, and committees on behalf of The Salvation Army, as assigned and recommended by the Divisional Secretary for Greater Philadelphia.
  • Ensure that all staff consistently log necessary donor information and interactions in The Salvation Army’s Territorial Database.
  • Annually review the performance of all direct employees, setting appropriate goals and checking in on goal progress regularly.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
