About The Position

The Residential Trainer is responsible for providing the necessary training for Residential staff members to ensure the safety needs, supervision and overall care of the clients while maintaining a therapeutic environment. Responsible for the training required for the general duties and responsibilities of the YSW such as staff orientation, Mandt training, positive interaction training between staff members and clients, variance reports, critical/unusual incident reports, handbook implementation, documentation, positive work environment, and team meetings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Education, Leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or ability to obtain within organizational timeframe).
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
  • Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
  • Must have a valid KS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Kansas Licensed Mental Health Provider (e.g., LPC, LCPC, LMLP, LP, LMFT, LSCSW, LCSW)
  • 1 year experience working with adolescents or in training.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial onboarding training and orientation for Kansas Residential staff to ensure baseline competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Delivers instruction in approved crisis intervention techniques to equip staff with appropriate responses to crisis situations.
  • Trains staff in principles of client supervision, safety, and environmental awareness.
  • Attends Training-of-Trainer sessions and subsequently provides expanded training opportunities across the residential programs.
  • Develops new training curriculums as needed for the residential program.
  • Coaches staff in maintaining structure, discipline, and security to meet client needs while modeling professional conduct and behavioral expectations.
  • Coaches staff in foundational program models and evidence-based practices.
  • Provides instruction on safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and required safety procedures, ensuring that staff understand and adhere to standards.
  • Trains staff in proper documentation of significant incidents within client records and reinforces documentation standards.
  • Provides training in CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and evacuation carries, and maintains training schedules as directed.
  • Maintains accurate training attendance records and submits required documentation for data entry and compliance tracking.
  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers training curricula by researching content, preparing materials, identifying presenters, and scheduling events.
  • Provides emergency program coverage when necessary to support continuity of care and facility operations.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to support coordinated care, shared learning, and program alignment.
  • Implements Saint Francis Ministries training policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and directives while adhering to all accreditation, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reports critical, unusual, or significant incidents through designated risk management, clinical, and safety reporting channels.
  • Ensures protection of clients’ rights and promotes a safe, structured, and trauma-responsive environment.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all applicable safety procedures and consistently follows required safety practices.
