About The Position

We are currently looking for the Sherlock "Homes" of the real estate world to join our team. Our Residential Title Examiners dig through piles of documents, hunt down clues, and solve mysteries to ensure our customers finally get those keys to their dream homes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in researching and examining property titles, ensuring that all transactions meet legal requirements and are defect-free.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of the use of title insurance.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in searching the title status of real property.
  • Familiar with title plant, register of deed records, electronic title search programs, and other sources used in established searching procedures.
  • Understand legal terminology used in searching titles and descriptions of real property.
  • Ability to locate, compile accurately, and interpret information affecting the status of title to real property; to make arithmetic computations and draw out legal descriptions.
  • Ability to operate a microfilm machine.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, in person, and by telephone.
  • Strong attendance to detail.
  • Ability to read cursive.
  • Education: High School diploma or the recognized equivalent is required. Minimum 3 years of experience in the title industry or a combination of education and experience.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Licenses: Michigan Title Producers Licenses

Responsibilities

  • Search public records and other databases to identify ownership, liens, mortgages, tax records, encumbrances, easements, and other appropriate title sources to real property to present an accurate and complete record of a given property.
  • Prepares and assembles the title commitment after completing the property search.
  • Updates and revises the title commitments accordingly.
  • Post relevant information regarding the status of the title search into an electronically formatted file.
  • Communicate with employees in person, in writing, and by telephone to exchange information concerning title documents.
  • Makes copies of public records.
  • Reliable Transportation.
  • Regular and physical attendance at workplace location.
