About The Position

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Residential Services Coordinator, Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled, assists in the personal care and treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness residing in a residential setting or supported independent living setting. Candidate is responsible for implementation of skill acquisition, understanding the stages of change and substance use disorders as it relates to each individual’s plan of service, with a goal of assisting individuals to be as independent as possible. Acts as a resource and referral for residents to meet their needs. Typical duties: support mental illness symptoms management, training and assisting residents in daily living skills such as medication management; personal care; interpersonal communication skills; cleaning; meal preparation and laundry; de-escalations skills; maintaining required documentation; and assisting residents in participation in community activities. Attends mandatory team meetings and in-service training sessions. Requirements: Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D. is required. Must receive and maintain certification in Department of Community Health Group Home Skill Training. Must be able to understand written instructions. Ability to accurately and effectively communicate both in writing and verbally is required. Must be able to read and follow medication charts. Candidate will provide crisis intervention as needed (Therapeutic Options A & Therapeutic Option B on an Emergency basis) and must be physically able to do lifting and transferring of physically impaired consumers according to approved agency policies/procedures. Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use is required. Conditional Employment Requirements: Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background check (including fingerprinting), a physical exam, and verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record. Location: Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled Residential, Lansing, Michigan.
