About The Position

We offer outpatient, intensive outpatient, home-based, and community-based programs, including a continuum of crisis services to over 22,000 residents of Shelby County. The person occupying this position provides basic supervision to mentally ill persons in a group home setting. Monitors and assists in the daily living activities of residents. Monitors and makes written documentation of residents’ behavior. This person will report all appropriate information of residents’ daily interactions to group home manager. This person also helps with the overall daily care of residents including cooking, shopping, housekeeping and personal grooming and hygiene.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED – requirement
  • Valid driver’s license - requirement
  • Driver’s license with an ‘F’ endorsement
  • Driving record which meets AHS’s liability insurance guideline
  • CPR Certification – requirement
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and meal preparation – requirement
  • Ability to operate household appliances – requirement
  • Examples: dishwasher, vacuum, washer/dryer, stove, microwave
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all clients, AHS employees and community you interact with as an AHS employee.

Nice To Haves

  • Course work or training in the area of mental health or experience working with a mental health consumer population – preferred

Responsibilities

  • Observe and monitor resident behavior, provide supervision to all residents
  • Train and assist residents in daily living skills. This can include helping residents: cook meals, personal hygiene, money management and safety compliance
  • Monitor and assist residents as they perform daily household chores, including supervising their use of household equipment and appliances
  • Supervise residents in the self-administration of medication
  • Assist residents in contacting and obtaining services from other agencies
  • Observe, monitor and assist when needed in recreational and leisure activities provided for the residents
  • Assist house manager in monitoring and maintaining: 1. Food and other household supplies, equipment and appliances. This includes shopping, cleaning and maintaining inventory 2. Household cleanliness, ensuring meal planning and preparation with residents, assigning and monitoring chores of residents 3. House meets all regulatory standards 4. Planning and conducting any recreational activities provided for residents
  • Report all observed resident behavior to the house manager
  • Transport residents to and from treatment programs and other activities
  • Monitor transport vehicles, ensure they are in proper working order and clean. Report any needed maintenance and repair of vans
  • Keep daily record of van use, run errands for the house manager as assigned
  • Document all contact and observation of residents’ behavior and resident progress
  • Maintain completeness of charts and other documentation
  • Other duties may be assigned by supervisor(s) to meet the needs of the consumer and AHS
