About The Position

The Residential Cook position provides supervisory, monitoring, and basic care functions for residents of the Center’s Enhanced Supported Housing and Supported Housing programs. The Residential Cook is required to work in a cooperative effort with other residential staff to provide a safe, structured environment which promotes and facilitates overall health and wellness for residents with a continual focus on progress towards greater independence and less restrictive levels of care. In addition, the Residential Cook is responsible for creating menus, purchasing food items, pulling, planning, and preparing meals. This position requires planning for all residential meals and ensuring residents nutritional needs are being met. Some weekends and nights may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.
  • Must acquire F-endorsement within 30 days of hire date
  • Sitting, standing, walking, turning, twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (<20lbs), manual use of keyboard and other office equipment; must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Physical requirements in this section are considered essential functions of the job to perform the job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and monitors resident’s compliance with house rules and behavioral expectations after consultation with Case Managers and Residential Program Directors.
  • May assist in the purchasing of foods and cleaning supplies under budgetary guidelines for the residential program.
  • Follows weekly menus according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Prepares meals according to established menus and/or monitors meal preparation by residents and compliance of residents with dietary guidelines.
  • Monitors residents’ compliance with expectations related to personal hygiene and appearance.
  • Completes household repairs when possible and if not, informs residential supervisory staff of any needed household repairs.
  • May be required to provide transportation for residents related to recreational, shopping, medical and other needs after consultation with residential supervisors.
  • Documents client progress on a daily basis.
  • Works with residential clients towards achievement of psychosocial goals through groups and activities as well as individual meetings.
  • Attends Residential staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by Director of Residential Services to discuss programmatic and resident-related issues.
  • Conducts facility inspections as needed to monitor cleanliness and neatness of the entire facility and other issues related to TDMHSAS licensure guidelines.
  • Cleans and repairs residential facilities, when possible, to ensure compliance with TDMHSAS guidelines.
  • Reports all problems related to residents and resident care to the Director of Residential Services.
  • Conducts orientation to program with new residents on day of admission including reviewing rules, behavioral expectations, and outline of the residential psychosocial program.
  • Follows all guidelines outlined in the CAREY Policies and Procedures Manual including Corporate Compliance Policies.
  • Is expected to have regular and predictable attendance and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Other assigned duties by supervisor or management to meet the needs of the organization.
