About The Position

Peter Claver Community, a program of Catholic Charities CYO, is a licensed medical care residence for thirty-two (32) chronically homeless individuals ages 18 and over, living with disabling HIV/AIDS. The Residential Assistant for Peter Claver Community monitors the comings and goings of residents, staff and visitors. Ensure the safety of residents by limiting access to the building and enforcing house rules.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
  • Knowledge of issues concerning chemical dependency, alcoholism, mental illness, and homelessness.
  • Ability to work with staff and clients around behavioral and psychiatric issues. Client behaviors may include shouting, use of profanity, inappropriate behavioral choices.
  • Ability to interact with residents, listens actively, resolve conflicts, and make referrals to appropriate professional staff.
  • Understanding and demonstration of professional telephone etiquette and receptionist skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure.
  • Understanding and following written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.

  • Frequent bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking.
  • Intermittent lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequent repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and follow through on all requests by residents.
  • Monitor the comings and goings of residents, staff and visitors.
  • Ensure the safety of residents by limiting access to the building and enforcing house rules.
  • Complete incident reports as needed.
  • Read Communication Log and check personal box daily.
  • Log significant events on each shift in the Communication Log.
  • Answer the phone and direct calls to the appropriate person.
  • Arrange shift coverage for sick calls as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Respond to emergencies as outlined in Disaster Plan and Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Is responsible for accurate and timely data entry that aids Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) reporting and case record reviews.
  • Is responsible for accurate and timely submission of case records.
  • Serves on a quarterly case record review committee for Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) reporting.
  • Serves on department or program Performance and Quality Improvement PQI Committee responsible for monitoring goals and reporting.
