About The Position

Support the operations of three Residential Shelter programs: the Clark Center, Jean’s Place, and Doreen’s Place. The Residential Shelter programs provide shelter and services to people experiencing homelessness. Program participants work with shelter staff, housing case managers, and wellness specialists to address their needs and reduce housing barriers.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field + 2 years of experience in social services (at least 1 year supervisor preferred) OR 3 years of experience in social services (at least 1 supervisor preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage shelter and residential programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new programs, policies, and procedures.Demonstrated ability to operate programs in a manner that respects the dignity, rights, and ability of participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent an organization in contacts with the media, community groups, funders, and government agencies in a successful fashion.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and proposals, and to present such reports and proposals both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet contractual obligations.Demonstrated ability to function as part of a management team.
  • Understanding of case management, chemical dependency and mental illness issues and problem-solving approaches.
  • Excellent computer skills. Demonstrated ability to use word processing, database, calendar, spreadsheet, e-mail, and Internet programs.
  • Each Transition Projects employee must:
  • Acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire and be retested biannually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens and Narcan Training within 30 days of hire and be retested annually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
  • Interact effectively with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
  • Attend agency and program staff meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Support the program operations of the Residential Shelter programs, working across all three programs as needed.
  • Provide weekend support to the Residential Shelters from Friday at 5pm to Monday at 8am. Duties include, but not limited to, coordinating with the Assistant Director of Shelter Services, being available by phone 24-hours a day when scheduled and ability to provide onsite support within 30 minutes.
  • Assure that the facilities are safe, welcoming, and inviting at all times. Ensure that facility rounds are being done accurately and in a timely manner, model good de-escalation and assertive engagement skills.
  • Assist the program manager with the weekly staffing schedules, assuring that adequate staffing levels are in place. Use the on-call roster and Mobile Support Specialists to fill any staff call outs as needed.
  • Assure that programs and operations empower participants to attain the highest possible level of self-determination and stability in their lives, and that programs and operations are conducted in such a manner as to fully respect the dignity, rights, and abilities of each individual participant.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Residential Services and Program Managers to improve consistency across Residential Shelter programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Support the Program Manager with all personnel functions, in particular: hiring, training, supervising, supporting, and performance management.
  • Assist with bi-weekly review and approval of staff timecards in Paycom, including correcting all clocking errors and approving time off requests in a timely manner, as needed.
  • Implement shelter policies and provide coaching for participants when needed, including reviewing, and enforcing participant separations.
  • Provide coaching, training, and support for staff.
  • Coordinate with the community partners to orchestrate service delivery.
  • Coordinate with agency program managers and directors to ensure that guest needs are met.
  • Attend Board meetings as requested and report on the state of the facility and program. As requested, participate in all-staff meetings, management meetings and retreats.
  • Assist with covering Severe Weather shelter shifts and providing additional support across the agency as needed.
  • Continually strive to improve your program and its relationship with key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
