About The Position

The Residential Director holds a key leadership role within the organization and is responsible for the oversight, development, and strategic direction of residential programs for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. This is a professional and supervisory position that involves managing Program Directors and site leadership, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving program quality, and fostering a culture of person-centered care. The Residential Director will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). This is a salaried (exempt) position.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and guide managers.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory and licensing requirements for IDD residential programs.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of the intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) service system.
  • Fiscal and budget management experience.
  • Proficiency in conducting internal audits, investigations, and program evaluations.
  • Capacity for strategic thinking and implementation of program growth initiatives.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services, healthcare administration, education, or a related field and at least three years of leadership experience in residential services or IDD programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in the IDD field, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • An Associate's degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university and at least eight years work experience working directly with persons with intellectual developmental disabilities.
  • An appropriate combination of scholastic and professional qualifications plus significant references to profile a candidate appropriately for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to Program Directors, Assistant Program Directors, and other residential staff.
  • Monitor and audit documentation across all residential sites to ensure preparedness for state licensing inspections and compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that Program Directors are actively present and managing the day-to-day operations at their assigned sites.
  • Participate in HCSIS investigations, ensuring timely documentation, follow-through, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams, ensure compliance with agency policies, and liaise with the Incident Manager & or regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, COO, Controller and Program Directors to monitor site budgets, approve large purchases for sites, and ensure fiscal accountability across programs.
  • Manage on-call responsibilities to respond to and coordinate resolution for emergencies involving staff and/ or residents.
  • Hold a caseload of assigned sites for direct oversight and work in conjunction with the respective program directors in creating optimal site schedules along with identifying open staff vacancies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans to open new residential sites and coordinate resident program placements as needed.
  • Conduct intake/referrals interviews and work with the COO and directors to ensure good match.
  • Conduct regular site visits and program & documentation audits to ensure quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead regular meetings with Program/Assistant Directors to review medical, operational, and administrative matters, and promptly update the COO of any ongoing issues, incidents or situations.
  • Work in concert with Human Resources to interview and hire Program Supervisors/Asst. PD/PD, ensure that new hires are properly and effectively on-boarded and trained, ensure that they are mentoring, coaching and providing support to their staff and providing necessary feedback.
  • Lead the administration of corrective disciplinary actions and corrective measures in alignment with organizational policies and in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Conduct regular performance feedback and provide constructive, ongoing feedback to Assistant & Program Directors to promote accountability, growth, and professional development.
  • Assist in ensuring the agency adheres to safety protocols and compliance standards, supporting the development and enforcement of policies and procedures that promote consistency, safety, and high-quality care.
  • Actively participate in organizational planning, leadership meetings, and cross-functional projects and committees across the agency and Woods System of Care as required.
  • Maintain relationships with licensing bodies, external partners, and stakeholders, representing the organization with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Ensure that all interactions reflect positively on the organization and support its mission and values.
  • Spearhead the Quarterly Nurses meetings to go through every resident and discuss major medical issues, strategize logistics for treatment and share appointment follow-up.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including nurses, Program Directors, and Program Supervisors, to review HRST recommendations and ensure appropriate carryover into each individual’s ISP.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and medical team—including the Community Healthcare Providers, Medical Coordinator, RL Health Clinic, BHI Nurse, Medical Administrative Assistants—as well as receive input from behavioral specialists, supports coordinator, family members and residential staff, to ensure residents’ medical needs are identified, addressed, and followed through in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Oversee and support Program Directors to ensure compliance, accurate documentation, quality improvement and adherence to Performance Based Contracting (PBC) metrics and benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with the COO and CEO to maintain accountability and support efforts to sustain and improve the organization’s PBC tier levels to the highest standards.
  • Ensure that all residential programming supports the agency’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
