About The Position

This position is located in the dormitory at the Division of Blind Services Career, Technology & Training Center (CTTC) in Daytona Beach. Duties will include, but not be limited to: providing assistance to the blind and visually impaired clients, providing information on guidelines and policies about the campus and dormitory, providing information to clients on emergency procedures, providing instructional support, providing safety monitoring, and providing multiple reports on a daily basis to supervisors and other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, works in conjunction with the Career, Technology, and Training Center (CTTC) campus staff, the Division of Blind Services District Offices, and community organizations in their outreach efforts to reach special and/or underrepresented populations.
  • Provide assistance to blind and visually impaired clients who may also have physical disabilities or challenges.
  • Provide information on guidelines or policies of the campus and dormitory as determined by the CTTC Administration.
  • Provide information to clients on emergency procedures.
  • Meet new clients at the time of admission.
  • Introduce clients to other clients and staff to assist in adjusting to their environment.
  • Assist clients and the nurse in attending to medical needs and appointments.
  • Review room assignments for new clients and maintain an awareness of client needs.
  • Provide assistance or direction during residential community activities both on and off campus as needed.
  • Support coordination of recreational and residential community events.
  • Report the number of clients to the cooks daily for meal preparation, snacks, and special diets.
  • Meet daily with fellow staff members to give shift-reports and review client status/progress in Case Management System (CMS).
  • Complete daily reports on a shift-to-shift basis.
  • Document safety issues and concerns related to client skills as well as unacceptable behavior, and any medical problems or injuries.
  • Draft incident/observation reports when incidents arise.
  • Record and deliver all telephone messages for clients and staff accordingly.
  • Maintain an awareness of all individuals located at the CTTC and its buildings and assist with custodial issues as necessary.
  • Check and maintain security of the buildings on a regular basis.
  • Handle emergencies as outlined in policy and procedures.
  • Attend in-service trainings.
  • Complete assigned training courses offered by the Division of Blind Services and Department of Education as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
