About The Position

The Residential Drug and Alcohol Counselor II position at Parisi House is a full-time role, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This role requires a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC II, III), LAADC, or an equivalent certification approved by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). The counselor is responsible for maintaining client files, ensuring compliance with state and county regulations, and facilitating various counseling sessions. Key duties include conducting process-oriented, psycho-educational, and individual AOD counseling sessions, as well as case management and collaboration with other professionals. The position involves working in a residential setting and interacting regularly with clients and their children, with a focus on adherence to confidentiality laws and participation in ongoing training.

Requirements

  • CADC II/III, or LAADC certification. All certifications and/or licenses must be kept current.
  • Demonstrated skills in counseling.
  • Good verbal and written English language skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other professionals in an intensive, fast-paced, and hands-on environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the disease concept of alcohol and other drug addiction.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and county guidelines regarding residential treatment and recovery programs.
  • Experience using common computer software programs including MS Office.
  • Must pass and maintain necessary clearances and drug screening.
  • A valid California Driver License, with access to a reliable vehicle/for driving a company vehicle, current proof of auto liability insurance, and a clean DMV record.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience with substance abuse treatment and prevention programs.
  • Prior experience working with mothers.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Adequate cultural awareness to effectively serve a diverse client population.
  • Experience with Drug Medi-Cal.
  • Experience with Welligent and UNI/CARE.
  • Knowledge of 12-step recovery program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain client files and ensure that all client assessments, treatment plans, daily progress notes, discharge plans and other documents are entered into the Electronic Health Record of each client in accordance with current state and county regulations, DHCS requirements, and Drug Medi-Cal compliance.
  • Facilitate process-oriented, Psycho-Educational and patient education using a combination of methods such as teaching, counseling, writing assignments and other techniques to develop clients’ knowledge and understanding of the impact of substance use. Progress note each group note according to individualize treatment plan using PIRP note format.
  • Case Management: Conduct case conferences, collaborate with other professionals inside and outside of our agency, and be visible and flexible within the work environment.
  • Conduct individual AOD counseling sessions with clients to monitor progress toward treatment plan goals and program participation, once a week per client.
  • Comply with state, county and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to client confidentiality (HIPAA and 42 CFR part 2), consents, incident reporting, and Child Protective Services reporting.
  • Participate in county and state trainings to learn about updates and changes in regulations and requirements.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
