About The Position

The Building Inspector performs physical inspections of new and existing homes, sheds, decks, etc. at various stages of construction from foundations to occupancy, ensuring safety and that structures comply with adopted codes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with residential construction and/or prior building inspection experience.

The City of Bella Vista offers an excellent benefits package effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Requirements

• Must possess attention to detail.
• Ability to learn & interpret codes adopted by the city.
• Ability to learn electronic recordkeeping system.
• Ability to read building plans.
• Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with the general public, builders, property owners, etc.
• Possesses knowledge of concepts, materials and terminology related to building construction.
• Willing to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
• Must be able to climb ladders & stairs in order to access attics, rooftops, decks, and be capable of navigating various terrains, often with steep slopes, to inspect trenches, basements, etc.
• High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED).
• Hands-on construction experience.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• NOTE: Background verification and drug screen will be required.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience as a licensed Building Inspector a plus but not required.
• Current certifications in building, plumbing, electric preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and conducts on-site inspections of properties for compliance with city codes.
• Identifies, documents, and communicates code deficiencies.
• Answers questions and assists the public on inspection-related activities.
• Prepares and maintains detailed, computerized records of inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.
