About The Position

Goddard Riverside invests in people & strengthens community, serving more than 20,000 people throughout New York City with a variety of programs for all ages. We work within a social justice framework to create a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families. Goddard’s newest endeavor will be a transitional Site for adult families. This site will be a place where families can feel safe, receive resources and supportive services, while becoming acclimated to, and part of, the community. Restgate Hotel is an emergency capacity transitional site located in Long Island City, Queens. RA team will ensure clients are getting acclimated to their living situation, following rules & regulations of the site, and assist in monitoring the residence. Residential Aid staff are the first welcoming face new residents are greeted by!

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required, associates degree preferred.
• Experience in shelter or residential setting
• Cultural awareness and understanding of client centered care.
• Passion for working with individuals and families who are in transitional housing.
• Excellent communication skills, able to utilize de-escalation techniques.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, to prepare and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner Knowledge of DHS requirements and protocols.
• Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion.
• Must be able to multitask with strong organizational skills.
• Detail orientated and systems savvy.
• Compassionate and personable
• Team-orientated
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, OneDrive Excel, etc.
• Ability to learn multiple databases including CARES.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, climbing and lifting to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in English, Spanish, French, or Creole (written and spoken) preferred.
• Food Protection Certificate will be required during first few weeks of hire.
• Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete regular and routine resident and facility checks to ensure that residents are not at risk and that facility management is aware of potential hazards (leaks, fire, destruction of property, etc.).
• Ensure compliance with all health, fire, and safety codes, ensure timely handling of all violations, prevent violations whenever possible.
• Assist in the monitoring and development of resident’s daily independent living skills.
• Establish and cultivate professional and positive relationships with families.
• Utilize evidence-based practice models including person centered planning, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, culturally aware, and strengths-based approaches.
• Escort clients via public transportation to appointments as needed.
• Co-Facilitate and participate in social emotional driven learning groups and activities for families.
• Perform and document all daily room and bed inspections are taking place.
• Manage operations desk: ensure documentation of client whereabouts, answer phones when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with building staff to assist tenants and ensure tenant safety.
• Document incidents onsite in CARES and send to Goddard Incident Report Committee.
• Report any concerns on quality service deliverables to management in a timely manner.
• Monitor common areas to ensure proper usage.
• Conduct intakes during evenings, overnights, and weekends as needed.
• Document in CARES intake system and ensure all clients are admitted in a timely fashion.
• Provide daily food service and ensure food delivery is stored immediately.
• Help maintain the cleanliness of the building and monitor common areas.
• Participate in staff meetings where resident issues, operations, policies, procedures, and program outcomes are discussed.
• Other duties as assigned.
