About The Position

Being a part of something meaningful as a Residential Aide for the Haven Program at Community Housing Advocates, you will have the opportunity to work with young adults, providing support in a fun, enriching, dynamic and growth focused environment.  Envision this as a role where you get to create and inspire activities that promote life skills, self-discovery and personal growth, all while helping them thrive in a safe and supportive home.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ensure the safety and smooth operation of our residential facility.  You’ll be a part of a team that is always there to provide structure and support to the residents in our care.  You’ll be creating an environment of fun, trust and growth, helping young adults with daily activities, developing life skills and encouraging a positive, lasting change.  And, YES! This is a critical position, so you would be considered ESSENTIAL.

Community Housing Advocates (CHA) a parent company of Mercy Housing & Shelter and My Sister’s Place, two agencies who in 2018 united forces based on a common mission- combating homelessness and providing support to individuals and families in need.  We provide safe housing, life changing services that include medical care, management of financial affairs, short- and long-term housing and all the necessary tools to reclaim their independence.  At CHA, you will be part of a team that truly makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED and some relevant work experience (bonus points if you’ve worked with youth or vulnerable populations).
• Valid Connecticut driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Create a Safe and Supportive Environment by Modeling positive behaviors.
• Help support and foster healthy relationships and a sense of belonging.
• Transport Residents to appointments.
• Maintain clear and consistent boundaries while demonstrating Empathy and Compassion.
• Promote recovery and/or wellness by ensuring residents adhere to their treatment plans, establish healthy routines that promote self-care.
• Observe and Document accurately client and visitor behavior, including challenges, absences and progress.
• Answer phones, take messages, and keep things running smoothly with mail distribution.
• Ensure safety of all in our care, with regular security rounds, monitoring of the systems, and ensure things are secure.
• Respond to emergencies, able to de-escalate and follow necessary protocols.
• Participate in group work, assist with chores, and help create opportunities for fun and growth.
• Promote accountability and completion of resident chores.
• Above all, be a positive role model and an encouraging presence for the young adults who call our residential facility home.
