About The Position

The Diagnostic Imaging Residency at Mississippi State University is a three and one half year, clinical based program designed to educate residents in the art and science of diagnostic and interventional imaging. The program provides a post-DVM individual with educational experience in both small and large animal diagnostic imaging, under the supervision of Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Radiology, preparing them for ACVR board certification. Residents have the option to complete a Master's degree during the program. Learning objectives for the residency follow those established by the ACVR and include detailed studies in applied gross anatomy, pathophysiology, physics of radiology, radiation biology and safety, alternate imaging, special procedures, and critical image analysis and differential diagnosis in all modalities available. Successful residents will have the opportunity to pursue career goals in teaching, research, clinical service or specialty practice. A certificate of Residency Training is presented after successful completion of the 3.5 year program.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AVMA - accredited veterinary school.
  • At least one year of veterinary practice experience is required.
  • Knowledge of patient care and animal behavior.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to show compassion.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed a one-year internship or equivalent practice experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with radiographic ultrasonographic, computed tomographic, and magnetic imaging studies under the supervision of an ACVR Diplomate.
  • Monitoring the clinical progress of patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Sharing emergency radiology duty with full-time radiology technicians, faculty, and fellow residents.
  • Periodically present case and topic rounds and lectures to interns and veterinary students.
  • Demonstration of imaging techniques and basic interpretive skills to veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
  • Research collaboration, graduate course work, and opportunities for publication
