About The Position

This post-DVM training program will prepare the candidate to successfully complete the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. This residency is a three-year position, renewable on an annual basis, assuming satisfactory performance. Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year. Salary Grade : 12 Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. Area of Specialization: Equine Surgery Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The resident will work closely with board certified equine surgeons at MSU-CVM. Residency training will emphasize diagnostic, clinical, and surgery skills. The resident will participate in the diagnostic service, teaching of veterinary students, journal club, rounds, seminars, and will be encouraged to attend and present at national meetings and write manuscripts for publication. The caseload is broad, and diagnostic investigation is strongly supported. The Resident will participate in teaching veterinary students in both didactic and clinical settings.

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree from an AVMA- accredited veterinary school
  • Internship or equivalent practice experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially related to client service
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of faculty, doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
