The Small Animal Surgery residency at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a three-year program. The primary objectives of the program are to train specialists in small animal surgery and to prepare residents for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Educational opportunities toward this end include daily case rounds, weekly journal club, weekly textbook reading assignments, monthly hospital-wide morbidity, and mortality rounds, and twice-yearly mock board examinations. Residents will present in-house seminars twice yearly. Presentation of original research at a national meeting by the end of the residency is encouraged.
