About The Position

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Residential Group Home Coordinator, Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled (CSDD), assists in the personal care and training of individuals with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting. Candidate is responsible for implementation of skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs developed to maximize an individual's potential for increased independence. Typical duties include: training and assisting residents in daily living skills such as personal care; interpersonal communication skills; household cleaning; meal preparation and laundry; implementation of Behavior Treatment Plans which may include the use of therapeutic physical and verbal intervention; maintaining required documentation; and assisting residents in participating in community activities. Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Will be required to pass and maintain certification in Department of Community Health Group Home Skill Training.
  • Must be able to understand written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Must be able to read and follow medication charts.
  • Candidate will provide crisis intervention as needed and must be physically able to lift 40lbs.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable means of transportation for job related use is required.
  • Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a criminal background check (including fingerprinting), a physical exam, and verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam annually.
  • Relief fills in for regular staff at various locations, shifts include overnights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • You must make yourself available to work at least four (4) PM shifts per month - two (2) of those must fall on a weekend.
  • You must make yourself available to work for at least three (3) shifts that fall on the major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve & New Year's Day.
