About The Position

This position will collaborate in developing and implementing a residency model program as part of the Educator Preparation Program within the college’s Teacher Education Department. The program goal will be to support and create a strong university-district-agency partnership between the Teacher Education Department at San Juan College, and school districts throughout New Mexico. This position will conduct field observations of students, lead meetings with teacher residents and school-based personnel, attend program design team meetings and provide general supervision support to teacher residents and co-teachers. Position is a grant position and is subject to grant approval and criteria.

Bachelors’ degree in Education required.
NMPED Level I license required
Experience in mentoring and coaching other teachers required.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

Market and maintain a year-long teacher residency program in partnership with school districts throughout New Mexico to train teacher candidates in high-quality pedagogical knowledge and community-based sensitivity awareness
Train teacher residents and their mentors in successful co-teaching strategies.
Provide program participants with coaching support that includes extensive content knowledge to teach subjects and a deep understanding of human development that allows them to master the multi-dimensional nature of teaching
Assist in the evaluation and analysis of program evaluations, and assist in writing the final program evaluation
Provides documented records and assessment of the residency component (including memorandum of understandings (MOU) agreements, policy shared regionally, observations, environmental changes and structured observation of education sites, at other sites, etc.), and actively engages students in residency planning, implementation, and assessment as well as supports regional Site Directors with updated current information on practicum students and schedules.
Coordinate the teacher residency education process by selecting and developing supportive regional teacher residency education sites, scheduling residency experiences, overseeing administrative requirements (i.e. residency contracts and student licensing), submitting appropriate forms as needed, and fostering positive relations with the local K-12 community.
Establishes and maintains relationships with the Senior Director, Leads, and staff instructors and provides training and support to enhance their student programs and develop strong practicum experiences that align with the Teacher Residency program and course learning objectives overall
Monitors the quality of teacher residency experiences and instruction by educators through education site visits and student evaluations of education experiences, including surveys and inventories to gauge needs and actionable items.
Serve as a mentor for Teacher residents.
Maintains expertise in New Mexico residency and co-teaching requirements by representing the College on statewide committees and meetings, including various PED, HED, and other entities. Participates in the NMPED’s Residency Community of Practice meetings.
Foster a teacher residency program environment grounded in respect for rural, culturally and linguistically diverse, and tribal communities, ensuring inclusive practices that support meaningful learning and relationship-building.
Manages the teacher residency program environment by keeping accurate records and other reports on time and administering academic and attendance policies consistently
Attend departmental meetings and other college meetings or events, as required, and work collaboratively on SJC committees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
