About The Position

The Residence Life Coordinator is a 12-month, live-in, full time (35 hours/week), benefits-eligible professional staff position responsible for the daily operation of the residence halls at Pratt Munson College of Art and Design. The position includes evening and weekend responsibilities and participation in a professional staff on-call rotation. Additional overtime hours may be required on occasion, with supervisory approval. An on-campus apartment within a residence hall and a meal plan (during the academic year) will be provided. The Residence Life Coordinator directly supervises 8–9 Resident Assistants (student staff), supports student well-being and community standards, responds to crisis situations, and collaborates with Student Life staff on residential programming and student engagement initiatives. This is a non-clinical position focused on student support, crisis response, referral, documentation, and coordination of services; the role does not provide counseling or treatment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in residence life, student life, or a related higher education setting preferred
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in crisis situations and to follow established protocols
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced residential environment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the residence halls, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment
  • Directly supervise, train, and evaluate 8–9 Resident Assistants, including regular meetings, performance feedback, and development support
  • Coordinate and support residential and community-building programming in collaboration with the Student Activities Coordinator and Student Life staff
  • Uphold and enforce residence hall policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook
  • Respond to student concerns, conduct issues, incidents, and emergencies, including crisis situations, following established institutional protocols
  • Participate in a professional staff on-call rotation, including evenings and weekends
  • Provide appropriate referrals to campus and community resources; this role does not provide clinical counseling or treatment
  • Assist with documentation and initial response related to residence hall conduct matters, referring cases as appropriate
  • Communicate with parents and families as needed, in coordination with Student Life leadership and consistent with FERPA and institutional policies
  • Maintain accurate documentation, incident reports, and administrative records
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and institutional initiatives related to student life and residential education
  • Perform other duties as assigned
