About The Position

The Researcher III shall provide expertise in bird - habitat relationships across project’s spatial extent as well as radar ornithology. Assist in processing weather surveillance radar data, running/updating statistical models from existing code, performing literature reviews, collecting information on environmental covariates, and development of reports/manuscripts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, Biological Sciences, or similar field
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience
  • The Researcher shall possess basic knowledge in the following:
  • Ecology and natural resource management theory
  • Natural history of the southeastern United States
  • Primary literature search
  • Data Management
  • Microsoft Office (i.e., word, excel, power point)
  • Database management and figure preparation in R
  • Table and report preparation
  • Map production
  • Ornithology
  • the ideal candidate shall be proficient at oral and written English-language communication.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal

Responsibilities

  • Provide limited technical support to map and communicate model predictions.
  • Provide the necessary data management and metadata to make products discoverable via ScienceBase
  • Collect archived biological and environmental data as directed by senior staff and integrate those products with processed weather surveillance radar data
  • Screen and process weather surveillance radar data, as needed
  • Create weather surveillance radar derived stopover distribution maps with specific parameters tailored toward partner needs
  • Input all data and metadata into usable data files and do preliminary data analysis using R and provide technical assistance to senior scientists and contractors in the analyses of this data.
  • Specific duties also include data reformatting, quality control checking, graphical output development, creation of archival data files and web site information. Develop and maintain project websites with suggestions from the team.
  • May be required to coordinate with and provide technical guidance to federal and other non-federal research staff (interns, volunteers, other contractors) on established project protocols and techniques.
  • Attend meetings and conferences related to cooperator support as needed.
  • Perform literature reviews for reports and manuscripts, as needed
  • Provide the necessary support for report and manuscript development
  • Providing field support as needed
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
