Bioanalytical research technician (RT) position available at the A. A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown to support the development of molecular imaging probes. The RT works as part of a team to perform research studies. The RT collects and analyzes study data as well as documents, compiles and maintains research data. Summary: Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data. Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
  • Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment
  • General wet lab knowledge is required for this project
  • Candidate must: Work with radioactive material following radiation safety guidelines and precautions
  • Candidate must: Prepare doses for injections
  • Candidate must: Prepare standards and calibrate instruments
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and willing to master new techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • experience in radiochemistry is a plus
  • 1-2 years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
  • Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
  • Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.
  • Radiolabeling of small molecules and peptides with radiometals for imaging and radiotherapy (Ga-68, Cu-64, Y-90, Lu-177...)
  • Work with radioactive material following radiation safety guidelines and precautions
  • Radiolabel molecules following standard protocols
  • Perform analyses of the radiolabeled material using analytical chemistry methods (HPLC, TLC)
  • Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists
  • Maintain and troubleshoot instruments
  • Prepare doses for injections
  • Prepare standards and calibrate instruments
  • Measure radioactivity in ex vivo biological tissues
  • Run analyses and analyze data
  • Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists

  • Protein preparation, purification, quantification using standard techniques like FPLC, BCA assay, Western blot, SDS-PAGE
  • UV-Vis, Fluorescence, NMR, and HPLC readouts
  • Data analysis using Excel or GraphPad Prism
  • Perform routine histological staining of tissue sections following standard protocols.
  • Reporting data summaries to senior scientists
  • Occasional preparation of metal complexes used as molecular imaging probes
  • Formulation and analysis of the probe solutions
  • Responsibilities include operation and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments (ICP, HPLC, LC-MS), execution and interpretation of bioanalytical assays, ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.
