About The Position

Assist with research, particularly database management, data analysis, and field data collection for a project funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct multistate monitoring and research on tidal marsh birds and their habitat from Maine to Virginia. This temporary position pays $21.00/hr. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The person in this position will assist with research, particularly field data collection on tidal marsh birds in Maine, including mist-netting, banding, morphometric measurements, and vegetation surveying.  The person in this position will also manage the associated data and communicate the results of their work with collaborators.

Requirements

  • Typically has the education associated with a bachelor’s degree in ecology or a related discipline and a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical skills in data management, particularly Microsoft Excel, including using code to proof and manage data
  • Ability to work independently on wildlife data collection, particularly bird banding, mist netting, and vegetation surveying
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Ability to travel, normally requiring a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with relevant data sets, databases, and field data collection methods
  • Experience with relevant ecosystems in the northeast region
  • Permit or subpermit for wild bird banding from U.S. Geological Survey or ability to qualify

Responsibilities

  • Lead field data collection on tidal marsh wildlife, including bird banding and vegetation sampling
  • Maintain accurate records of research findings and the analysis of results.
  • Prepare reports in collaboration with team members.
  • Present research findings to team members and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility, and mutual respect.
  • Build productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Utilize coaching and mentoring methods which provide an environment that is anticipatory, supportive, and encourages constructive feedback on performance.
