The primary purpose of the position is to assist the PI and support assays as required to meet the objectives of the organizational unit. This requires that the employee provide support for laboratory operations, including tissue processing and organization, preparing buffers and media/supplements/reagents, and obtaining all necessary supplies to carry out experiments performed in the laboratory. Associated duties include maintaining extensive and detailed written and computerized records of laboratory procedures, and animal colony inventory, care and management. Computer skills include familiarity with word processing and spread sheet software packages. A large component of this position is general laboratory management and support including participation in ordering and record keeping, compliance with health & safety procedures and technical assistance for functional experiments. The position entails extensive interpersonal interactions with other members of the laboratory including students, postdocs, technicians and collaborators to ensure effective transfer of results.
