About The Position

The Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye's Laboratory is seeking a Research Surgery Fellow for a two-year position starting as early as 5/1/26. The laboratory focuses on developing animal models of fetal anomalies to study disease pathophysiology, with the goal of identifying innovative diagnostic markers and in-utero therapies. Current projects include a swine model of necrotizing enterocolitis and small-animal models of gastroschisis and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The lab is also engaged in a variety of multidisciplinary clinical research initiatives related to fetal and neonatal conditions. The fellow will conduct surgical research under the supervision of senior surgeons, assisting with protocol development and data analysis.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school, or international equivalent, required.
  • Currently in a Surgery Training Program, required.
  • Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research.
  • Effective technical writing and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of surgical training, preferred.
  • Experience with large animal surgeries, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • May perform molecular biology, cell biology and/or animal experiments.
  • Designs and conducts scientific experiments to obtain data.
  • May participate in clinical research and IRB protocols.
  • Writes and publishes scientific manuscripts and journals.
  • Contributes to grant submissions for external funding.
