About The Position

As a supervisor within the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT), the employee will be responsible for overseeing multiple key areas of operation. Primary responsibilities include managing sequencing workflows, such as Illumina NovaSeq and PacBio Revio processes. Additionally, the employee will lead projects aimed at developing new sample preparation methods, including PacBio Kinnex-based assays and whole genome sequencing initiatives. The role also involves supporting CAT operations as needed, including participating in training programs and sequencing services that benefit the scientific community. The supervisor is expected to function as an independent researcher, demonstrating efficiency and proficiency with minimal supervision. In the absence of senior CAT leadership, the SRA4 will assume overall management responsibilities for the center, including serving as the backup director and overseeing center finances and billing. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $33.98 - $54.67 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • MS in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Biochemistry or a degree in a related science and three or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience with PacBio library preparation and sequencing operations.
  • Ability to make analytical calculations efficiently (molarity, dilution calculations).
  • Able to perform basic molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Aptitude for technology and instrumentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Illumina sequencing platforms and library preparation.
  • Experience with PacBio Revio.
  • Digital PCR experience.
  • Automation experience with robotic liquid-handling systems such as Beckman, Hamilton systems, etc.
  • Bioinformatics experience with R and/or Python
