About The Position

This position is for a Research Specialist to work on an education research study involving undergraduate students in biology and biochemistry at two public universities in North Carolina. The specialist will act as a liaison between the university teams and evaluate the impact of an educational intervention led by the Pittman Teaching Lab. The role involves supporting the conduct and management of research activities, with a focus on sessions examining curricula designed to strengthen student motivation and increase visual literacy. The study will assess, revise, and update curriculum integrating hands-on 3D modeling, comparing changes before and after student participation. The ideal candidate should be interested in developing skills in STEM education research.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between both university teams
  • Evaluate the impact of an educational intervention led by the Pittman Teaching Lab
  • Support the conduct and management of research activities, primarily focused on sessions examining curricula designed to strengthen student motivation, and increase visual literacy
  • Assess, revise, and update curriculum integrating hands-on 3D modeling, comparing changes before and after students’ participated in our learning activities
  • Be involved with quantitative and qualitative data collection in the form of pre-/post-surveys, self-reflection, and journaling activities
  • Co-design course materials
  • Perform a literature review
  • Coordinate data management (after training)
  • Analyze mixed-methods survey data (after training)
  • Contribute to manuscript writing as a co-author (after training)
  • Attend & observe classroom sessions
  • Participate in instructional planning meetings with the teaching team
