About The Position

This position is for a Research Senior Technician within The Ohio State University's Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC), dedicated to supporting scientific investigation into novel therapeutic strategies for blood-borne malignancies, under the direction of Dr. Rosa Lapalombella. The role involves independently conducting assigned experiments, performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques such as PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Northern and Western analysis. Key responsibilities also include collecting and processing tissue and blood samples, testing and evaluating current procedures, performing routine procedures on lab animals, and meticulously recording and consolidating research results. The technician will assist with the analysis of data, evaluate the validity of experimental data, summarize findings for grant proposals and manuscripts, and prepare research progress reports. Furthermore, the role entails assisting the principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts, conducting library research, overseeing and maintaining accurate laboratory records, and training junior research staff, undergraduate, and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation. The technician will also be responsible for setting up and operating laboratory equipment and managing research supply inventory, including initiating procurement requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support scientific investigation to study novel therapeutic strategies for blood born malignancies as directed by Dr. Rosa Lapalombella
  • Independently conduct assigned experiments
  • Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis
  • Collect and process tissue and blood samples
  • Test and evaluate current procedures
  • Perform routine procedures on lab animals
  • Record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research results
  • Assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures
  • Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Prepare research progress reports
  • Assist principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts
  • Conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities
  • Assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment
  • Monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiate procurement requests as needed
