About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University is seeking a Research Senior Technician. This role involves assisting in the design and execution of standard research protocols, recording procedures and results, and training lab members in new established protocols. The technician will specifically prepare proteins and RNAs and conduct assays to test their function. Work with radioisotopes will be a required part of the job. Additionally, the position includes general lab maintenance and record keeping, such as performing weekly radiation surveys, managing radioisotope inventories, and handling waste disposal. Other responsibilities encompass making standard lab stock solutions and competent cells, ordering reagents and supplies, receiving and storing items, maintaining instruments, and organizing lab space and samples. The College of Arts and Sciences is described as the university's largest college and academic heart, featuring 81 majors, 38 departments, over 20 world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree
  • Work with radioisotopes

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience in protein purification
  • Experience in standard molecular biology techniques including DNA plasmid preparation
  • Experience in RNA preparation and handling
  • Experience in protein and nucleic acid electrophoresis
  • Experience in RNA structure probing
  • Experience in thermal melting studies
