About The Position

The Polar Geomicrobiology Group in the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks a Research Senior Technician to collect and analyze data regarding the structure of lake ice. The Research Senior Technician will support the objectives of a federally funded National Science Foundation grant to develop technology that can measure ice thickness and composition in the environment. The Research Senior Technician is primarily responsible for collecting and analyzing data on lake ice composition and structure from natural and experimental settings. They will be responsible for communicating with and assisting our grant colleagues by providing data for comparison with the developing technology. They will produce reports based on their analysis to be shared with the collaborators on the grant. Also, they will assist with laboratory-based experiments in support of grant objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Degree in any Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics major or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
  • Candidates for this position should be capable of using Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional educational and desired experience include the analysis of computed tomography data and a working knowledge of a coding language (i.e., python, matlab).
  • Experience communicating scientific results in reports is desired.
