About The Position

The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James conducts cutting‑edge research to advance next‑generation cancer immunotherapies. The Li Lab investigates molecular mechanisms that govern immune regulation, with a focus on GARP–TGFβ biology, innate and adaptive immune signaling, and translational immuno‑oncology platforms. The Researcher 2 is an individual‑contributor role requiring specialized expertise in immunology, molecular biology, or related fields. The position supports research projects of moderate scope and complexity, contributing through independent experiments, data generation, problem‑solving, and collaboration with functional or project teams. The incumbent may coordinate aspects of workflows, share technical knowledge with junior staff, and serve as a primary owner for defined lab processes. Work is performed with general guidance, and new assignments may require detailed instruction.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field OR bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience OR master’s degree with 1 year of experience.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience performing molecular, cellular, or biochemical assays.
  • Ability to apply professional knowledge to tasks of moderate complexity with general supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in immunology, cancer biology, proteostasis, or immune signaling.
  • Prior experience in academic or industry research settings.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and lab management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Research Execution & Technical Expertise Performs experiments in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, and proteostasis pathways using established and moderately complex techniques.
  • Applies specialized knowledge to generate, analyze, and document data; interprets results using sound scientific judgment.
  • Assists in developing and troubleshooting assays.
  • Maintains experimental systems essential for ongoing projects.
  • Ensures accurate and reproducible documentation.
  • Project Coordination & Collaboration Contributes to cross‑functional research efforts within PIIO.
  • Supports project planning by communicating progress and identifying technical challenges.
  • May serve as primary owner of specific lab processes or equipment.
  • Exchanges information with collaborators to support project objectives.
  • Laboratory Operations, Mentorship & Compliance Provides guidance and technical support to trainees or junior staff.
  • Helps maintain equipment, lab organization, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Participates in lab meetings and supports preparation of data for publications or grants.
  • Promotes an inclusive and collaborative research environment.
