About The Position

The National Security Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Research Scientist at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) facility located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the DEVCOM CBC mission. In this mission we support DEVCOM CBC in basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts to support the U.S. Warfighter and ensure our Warfighters maintain battlefield dominance during a chemical and/or biological event. Primary Responsibilities. Specific efforts will include analysis of chemical materials, development and characterization of novel materials to include polymers and thermoplastics and testing, evaluation, and modeling materials against traditional chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (TIMs). The research scientist will work under the direction of DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigator and other research scientists, chemists, and engineers.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or Engineering or other equivalent scientific field with 5-8 years of prior relevant experience or advanced degree with 2-4 years relevant experience.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U. S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance with potential for Top Secret Clearance
  • Performing research and development in areas of polymer and thermoplastic development
  • Demonstrated experience using technologies and applications such as melt spinning, melt rheology, dynamic scanning calorimeter, ASTM mechanical testing, and microscopy to include scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
  • Demonstrated experience in filtration technologies for particulate capture and measurement and familiarity with N95 and High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) development

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency in organic synthesis
  • familiarity with computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling for vapors and particulates
  • Knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) and knowledge of multilayer thermoplastics
