About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Scientist III position located within the New York State Office of Mental Health. Duties and Responsibilities: Explore trends and causes of incompetent-to-stand-trial orders; evaluate programs for and understand success of those adjudicated not responsible by reason of mental disease or defect; Assess outcomes related to patients discharged from orders; evaluate the Serious Mental Illness Violence risk program; request and coordinate the receipt of criminal history data for program evaluation; Evaluate the Resident Rehabilitation Units; assist the Jail Diversion Center with evaluations of local diversion programs; coordinate and conduct an evaluation of Crisis Intervention Teams and Mobile Access Program; Prepare research reports on best practices related to various populations and programs, and present the contents of those reports virtually and in-person; Assess the statistical methods and procedures used to determine best practices to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency and accuracy; perform descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data; Analyze and interpret statistical data; prepare tables, graphs, fact sheets and written reports summarizing research results.

Requirements

  • Ability to conceptualize and execute a complete quantitative analysis
  • Experience conducting reviews of scientific literature, scientific writing, publications and presentations
  • Experience with the mental health systems and criminal justice programs
  • Proficiency in the use of SPSS or other statistical analysis software and standard Microsoft applications
  • Strong relational and multidimensional data modeling skills
  • Experience structuring and executing data extractions from data management systems
  • Experience using Tableau and SQL
  • Master's degree in economics, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, or a related field ; and three years of experience or Ph.D. in an appropriate field and 2 years of experience
