About The Position

Under the direction of a higher-level scientist, the Research Scientist 2 will devote his/her time to biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratories activities and develop molecular and protein-based based assays and whole-genome sequencing assays for high-risk fungal pathogens. The Research Scientist 2 will also validate molecular and protein-based tests and perform additional duties as required. The incumbent will also perform routine testing of the laboratory, including QC/QA.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences
• three years of professional post-degree research experience in the appropriate field

Nice To Haves

• work experience or coursework in clinical laboratory sciences, microbiology, public health or infectious diseases
• experience in handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level-2 containment
• experience with molecular techniques including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, assemblies of targeted and whole-genome sequences, phylogenetic analyses, and data interpretations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
