We’re looking for a Research Project Manager to join our Research Operations team in San Diego, with a dedicated focus on hardware research programs. Our Research Operations team designs and executes the human research studies that power Oura’s next-generation sensor development and bolster our scientific credibility. The focus of the hardware research program is to develop and validate new features, while continuing to enhance the accuracy of our algorithms. In this role, you’ll support the scientific process, from protocol design through data collection, to execute these studies and unlock new features for members. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3+ days per week in the San Diego, CA office.

Requirements

  • Have at least 2 years of experience working on human research studies (in industry, academic, or CRO settings)
  • Have at least 1 year of direct project management experience (i.e., coordinating activities across the study lifecycle - from IRB submission to outcomes delivery, etc.)
  • Have at least 1 year of experience working with external research partners (e.g., CROs, consultants, academic institutions)
  • Have experience working with wearable tech, medical devices, and/or prototype validation
  • Have delivered high-quality datasets with clear documentation and a strong grasp of research best practices (GCP or equivalent)
  • Thrive in cross-functional environments—especially at the intersection of hardware, software, and science
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity, fast-paced iteration, and hands-on problem-solving
  • Are flexible with scheduling to accommodate meetings with international collaborators and occasional site visits
  • Are based in San Diego and available for regular on-site data collection and collaboration at least three days per week

Responsibilities

  • Manage 2-5 hardware research studies simultaneously, overseeing protocol development, data collection, and quality control for studies that validate sensors and expand sensing capabilities.
  • Build relationships with institutional partners and CROs to expand and complement our current data collection capabilities.
  • Collaborate with and communicate study progress to technical partners (e.g., research scientists, hardware engineers).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across firmware, software, and study operations.
  • Communicate proactively with internal teams and external collaborators to identify logistical needs and ensure timelines and data quality goals are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement in tools, processes, and documentation to raise the bar on research execution.
