About The Position

To prepare investigational intravenous and oral medications safely and aseptically for patients on clinical trials and provide technical support to research pharmacy operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees.
  • Ability to build rapport with patients to deliver exceptional direct patient care
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Must be patient service oriented
  • A professionally certified pharmacy technician.
  • 2 years of admixture experience is required.
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to satellite clinics when necessary.
  • Floats to other clinics as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The technician will be responsible for all duties of preparing and dispensing of research and commercial medications
  • Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with the federal and state regulations and standards
  • Maintains accuracy in processing orders to ensure that all orders are processed and dispensed in a timely manner
  • Utilizes multiple systems such as EMR and other clinical research systems
  • Maintains the inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation of stock, expiration date managing and cycle counting
  • Performs and document quality control steps required
  • Performs cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned
  • May be assigned cross-cover other locations or areas
  • Receives, barcodes, transfers, and destroy research medications in IDS pharmacy accountability system
  • Assists in monitor visit activities (may meet with internal and externa monitors and respond to questions regarding inventory control and documentation)
  • Performs sterile compounding of hazardous drugs in compliance with USP 797, USP 800, practice policies and research protocols, including complex compounding processes such as serial dilutions, mixing multiple ingredients, etc.
  • Ensures federal and state compliance regarding investigational storage, handling, transferring of research product
  • Files all paperwork pertaining to inventory control activities
  • Ensures all study medications are maintained in an organized fashion to enable respective staff to clearly identify location of study supply
  • Assists to provide orientation and training to newly hired pharmacy technicians.
  • Keeps work area and equipment clean and neat.
  • Maintains current technician certification.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned requested and/or required.
