About The Position

This Agricultural Research Manager position serves as the Livestock and Forage Unit Manager at Mountain Research Station. In this capacity, the individual in this position is responsible for the management of multiple complex research studies related to beef cattle/small ruminate and forage/row crop research. This position works collaboratively with the station managers, division program staff, and researchers to sustain and increase research capacity, capabilities, and efficiencies. Our ideal candidate will have experience in overseeing daily livestock operations, pasture management, forage and hay production. The individual in this position will be assigned to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis as the workload requires. The major functions of this position are:

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general agricultural equipment operation and production practices.
  • Knowledge of agricultural research methods and principles.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to livestock using low stress handling and Beef Quality Assurance methods.
  • Ability to lead a diverse staff.
  • Ability to perform long periods of repetitive reaching, stooping, standing, bending, and lifting 50 pounds in a variety of work environments.
  • Must possess or qualify for certification/licensure within twelve months of employment for the following:
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (Interstate)
  • Forklift Driver Certificate
  • Public Pesticide Applicator License
  • Obtain medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
  • Animal Waste Management System Operator’s License
  • Bachelor’s degree related to the assigned program area and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned programs and projects.
  • Oversee daily care, nutrition, breeding and health management of livestock.
  • Oversee forage production for both grazing and harvesting for stored feed.

  • Overseeing maintenance of station facilities
