About The Position

The Research Manager is a split position between the Department of Family Medicine and the Institute for Integrated Behavioral Health. Within Family Medicine, the Manager is expected to assist faculty, resident, and medical student researchers with project development, from determining research questions to manuscript preparation. This role supports the development of data collection tools to best answer research questions, advises on research methodology and statistical testing, and performs database creation, data entry, analysis, interpretation, and report generation for all Department of Family Medicine research projects. Within the Institute, the Manager is expected to liaison with clinical informatics and work across all primary care clinics in the ETSU Health enterprise to develop and disseminate meaningful data visualization tools. This role includes engaging stakeholders in creating and revising the tools, so they are brought to greatest impact in building an accessible and effective behavioral health service. It also includes leadership around the transition to a new EMR and continued support of these tools. It is expected that this work will provide opportunities for faculty, resident, and graduate student scholarly activities and this role includes supporting those individuals in doing so. There is significant overlap in the mission and context of the Department of Family Medicine and Institute for Integrated Behavioral Health. Across both positions, the ideal candidate will possess proven experience and expertise in data management with knowledge of research practices. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills around project development, management, and dissemination.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience in the higher education research environment
  • Knowledge of research processes, particularly primary care content and concepts
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the improvements of health in rural areas
  • Knowledge of grant writing and other technical writing
  • Knowledge of study design for scholarly activities
  • Knowledge of CITI human subjects training requirements
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
  • Knowledge of ETSU and Institutional Review Board policies and procedures and grant policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and skills in clinical informatics and the use of data visualization tools
  • High level of proficiency in computer software and tools including word processing, presentation, data management, statistical software, technical writing, budgeting, and program evaluation, specifically Microsoft Office Programs, SPSS, reference management software, PubMed, REDCap, online survey programs, electronic health record data extraction
  • Skills in curriculum development, and the ability to teach medical residents
  • Skills in scientific presenting and writing to edit the work of faculty, residents, and medical students and to assist with grant application development
  • General medical and statistical knowledge to be able to perform appropriate literature searches and synthesize this information
  • Detail-oriented to be error-free in data management
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
  • Ability to coordinate multiple resources and tasks, meet deadlines and solve problems
  • Ability to communicate research information to various audiences, including medical students, residents, and faculty
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently to meet various concurrent deadlines
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Three years of experience in primary care research/practice
