Research Intern
About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting with applied and basic research in the field of arboriculture and adjacent sciences, such as entomology, plant pathology, and soils. Ideally, the individual will have some background in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, plant science, Geographical Information Systems (a plus but not required), or a related field. The employee will be highly encouraged and supported to work on an independent project and publish or present findings to colleagues. The individual is expected to express a willingness to further develop their skills and work both independently and collaboratively. Position Location : The Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories & Arboretum, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. Overnight travel to remote research locations may be necessary for some projects. Responsibilities
- Assist with establishment and implementation of new research trials in the field, laboratory, or greenhouse
- Schedule and carry out routine plot maintenance, including watering, mulching, herbicide application, pruning, etc.
- Collect field and laboratory data and perform statistical analysis for research trials
- Assist with product application for research trials and research plot maintenance; including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and plant growth regulators
- Participate in workshops and professional meetings
- Responsible for effectively managing your time and projects according to deadlines
- Responsible for carrying out other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor
- Learn, understand, and adhere to all safety rules and policies
