About The Position

The New Roots for Restoration Biology Integration Institute at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center has an opportunity for 2-3 part-time, seasonal Research Interns as part of the New Roots for Restoration Biology Integration Institute. Research focuses on integrating diverse phenotyping approaches, genetics and statistical modeling to advance understanding of perennial plant diversity and evolution, and to optimize and expedite perennial crop development, with the goal of developing more sustainable agricultural systems. The Research Intern will be trained in techniques of above- and below-ground plant phenotyping, sample processing, data analysis and interpretation. They will assist with ongoing projects; duties will include lab- and field-based sample collection and processing, data collection, project maintenance, and participation in larger lab- and institute-wide projects. This experience will give the Research Intern a broad skillset in research that can be leveraged for future positions or education. The Research Intern will work closely with a dynamic and diverse research team that includes research team that includes research scientists, graduate students, technicians and interns. In addition to training on various techniques of scientific research, each intern will assemble and deliver a presentation of results generated at the end of the internship. The position is part-time (up to 29 hours per week) for up to six months starting as early as Ma and running as late as December, with the possibility of extension pending available funds. The position will be paid a monthly stipend of $2200. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled.

Requirements

  • Experience with field research and data collection
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and to shovel and lift moderate to heavy weights
  • Enrolled in good standing in a bachelor's degree program in biology, botany, ecology, agriculture, plant science, data science, or related fields
  • Strong interest in plant science
  • Curious, committed, enthusiastic learner with a strong work ethic and positive attitude

Responsibilities
