About The Position

Microsoft's Health and Life Sciences (HLS) group is driving a healthcare revolution with AI-powered solutions like Dragon Copilot. These innovations empower healthcare professionals to enhance patient care, improve outcomes, boost productivity, and reduce burnout. Our applied sciences team is looking for a Research Intern to work on researching and innovating new technologies for Healthcare Data Deidentification, including across different health data types and languages. You will work at the forefront of technology for protecting health data and enabling new applications within healthcare, with strong real-world application and impact.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
At least 1 year of experience with natural language processing or machine learning.
Research Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.
In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position as well as a cover letter and any relevant work or research samples.

Nice To Haves

Passionate about real-world applications and impact in healthcare.
Track record of publications in top natural language processing, computer vision, healthcare AI or machine learning venues.
Experience with health data deidentification would be a plus.
Experience with natural language processing for multilingual text would be a plus.
Experience with computer vision on healthcare data would be a plus.
Experience with machine learning on healthcare data would be a plus.

During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community.
Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
