About The Position

The Manager of Research & Evaluation plays a pivotal role in Hanna’s mission to become a national leader in trauma-responsive, healing-centered care. Reporting to the Director of Research & Evaluation and supervising the R&E Associate, this position supports and implements evaluation and research systems across all functions of the organization. The Manager contributes expertise in designing applied research, improving data systems, building staff capacity to use data effectively, and ensuring Hanna’s programs and partnerships are grounded in measurable impact and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, evaluation, education, or related field.
  • Minimum  4 years of relevant experience in evaluation, applied research, or quality improvement roles.
  • Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including statistical software use (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
  • Demonstrated experience producing data reports, dashboards, and visual summaries.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences.
  • Proven  ability to manage projects, supervise staff, and collaborate across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with RBA (results-based accountability).
  • Familiarity with nonprofit, youth development, or social service organizations.
  • Comfort working with coding/statistical platforms (Python, SQL, R, Stata, etc)
  • Comfort working with databases, CRMs, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, AWS, Qualtrics, SalesForce).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation Design & Implementation
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement evaluation frameworks, logic models, and performance metrics across programs and departments.
  • Guide the creation and refinement of measurement instruments (e.g., surveys, validated tools, interviews, focus groups) for consistent and rigorous data collection.
  • Drive quality improvement efforts by identifying insights from data that inform practice and decision-making across the organization.
  • Support innovation and efficiencies in data collection and analysis, including implementing new technology (ie AI and platforms).
  • Research & Applied Studies
  • Support and help implement applied research studies aligned with Hanna’s strategic priorities
  • Assist in the development of study designs, methodologies, protocols, and ethical standards, especially for work with marginalized communities.
  • Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data for publication, presentations, and internal decision-making.
  • Data Systems & Analysis
  • Collaborate with IT, Programs, and Quality departments to manage and refine databases and data systems.
  • Ensure effective data governance and accurate reporting through monitoring, validation, and cleaning of data sets.
  • Apply descriptive and inferential statistical methods to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Maintain and enhance organizational dashboards, automate data updates, ensure appropriate access, and train staff on interpretation and use. Provide monthly analysis and surface patterns for strategic decision-making.
  • Capacity Building & Internal Collaboration
  • Serve as a key resource to staff and leadership, building internal capacity for understanding and using data in practice.
  • Mentor  and supervise the R&E Associate to ensure high-quality contributions to data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Facilitate training, coaching, or support for staff in evaluation methods, tools, and outcome use.
  • Lead rollout of new workflows and data entry tools, train staff on usage, monitor fidelity, and coordinate updates in response to staff feedback.
  • Reporting & Dissemination
  • Draft and present impact and evaluation content for reports, grant applications, board materials, and community presentations.
  • Coordinate with the Development and Marketing teams to ensure Hanna’s impact is clearly communicated to funders and stakeholders.
  • Support preparation of articles, presentations, and other materials for conferences and publication.
  • Contribute  to grant reporting by ensuring metrics are collected consistently and aligned with funder requirements.
  • External Partnerships
  • Support Hanna’s collaborative initiatives with external organizations, government partners, and academic institutions.
  • Assist in defining shared measurement strategies and tools for collective impact initiatives and multi-partner programs.
