About The Position

We’re looking for professionals dedicated to driving innovation in biomechanics research to join our research team in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM), in Winston-Salem, NC. The successful candidate will contribute to diverse research and development projects within the Center for Injury Biomechanics (CIB) at Wake Forest. Responsibilities include supporting experimental biomechanics data collection, human subject studies, and computational research and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, plus two years of biomechanics research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and engineering experience (e.g. a Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in mechanical testing, data collection, instrumentation, and related laboratory techniques.
  • Proficiency in CAE tools and computational model development from medical imaging.
  • Experience with finite element analysis and pre- and post-processing capabilities using Matlab or Python.
  • Strong mathematical background and experience using large datasets and advanced statistical methods.
  • Works well within a team environment, comfortable working with volunteer studies for biomechanical data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with junior engineers and students within the CIB on engineering and simulation related tasks.
  • Leads laboratory experiments, data collection, and analysis using standard (e.g., MTS) and customized testing platforms.
  • Leads technical aspects related to the design of human subject-based research studies, such as anthropometric or image data collection.
  • Assists with IRB preparation
  • Leads on site data collection for recruited volunteers
  • Uses finite element analysis (FEA) tools and related software to support extramurally funded research, and to generate pilot data for new research.
  • Pre-processes FEA simulations using commercial software.
  • Has familiarity with high performance computational clusters.
  • Analyzes FEA simulation results using commercial software.
  • Performs segmentation and other quantitative analysis on medical image data, including CT and MRI.
  • Interfaces with sponsors, colleagues, and collaborators at national and international conferences.
  • Participates in regular project update meetings.
  • Assists writing technical reports and manuscripts.
