The Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department (CBD) at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to studying biological systems using computational methods. Faculty and researchers collaborate across fields such as computer science, biology, and statistics to tackle complex biological questions. Their work spans diverse areas including genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience, driving innovation at the intersection of computation and life sciences. CBD is seeking a Research Associate to assist with statistical modeling of single-cell multiome data, development of algorithms to link enhancers with their cis-regulatory gene targets, simulation studies and real-data benchmarking, and manuscript preparation. Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 1-3 years of relevant work experience required.
• Research, data collection, and analysis experience.
• Strong problem solving, reasoning, analytical and communication skills.
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
• Successful background check

Nice To Haves

• Master’s Degree in a related quantitative field, such as computational biology, computer science, or a related discipline highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Lead an independent project on modeling enhancer-gene relationships using single-cell multiome data, including: Conducting literature review Designing experiments Developing algorithms Conducting real-data analysis Presenting results in one-on-one and group meetings.
• Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination, or presentation; writes technical reports.
• May build and validate quantitative models.
• Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
• May program software in support of job functions.
• Attends project meetings.
• Performs related duties as assigned
