About The Position

The University of Virginia, Department of Computer Science, is seeking applicants for Research Associate positions to under supervision of Professors Tianhao Wang (Department of Computer Science), Jingjing Li (McIntire School of Commerce), and Michael Albert (Darden School of Business). As a pivotal member of the research team, the postdoctoral fellow will investigate emerging forms of LLM‑enabled abuse in digital advertising, develop measurement frameworks to detect automated scams and manipulative targeting behaviors, and design mitigation strategies that support safer and more transparent AI‑driven advertising ecosystems. Concurrently, they will enhance their skills in teaching, mentoring, and proposal development. This not only deepens their expertise in critical cybersecurity domains but also enriches their professional development as a researcher, mentor, and educator.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in computer science, information systems, marketing analytics, statistics, math, or other related fields by the start date.
  • Research experience in large language models and their applications in digital platforms, online advertising, or marketing systems, with particular interest in LLM-enabled abuse, manipulation, or misuse (e.g., fraud, deceptive advertising, adversarial content, or policy evasion).
  • Familiarity with privacy-preserving methods (e.g., differential privacy), platform governance, or responsible AI is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with network analysis, computational social science, or applied AI methods in business contexts is strongly preferred.
