Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Entomology, Zoology, Biology, or equivalent degree
  • Two years of related professional experience.
  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with forensic science
  • Ability to raise flies in the lab
  • Experience with life history trait analyses
  • Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis with biological systems
  • Ability to work with scientific teams

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with research colleagues in the Department of Entomology on a project conducted by a team of researchers evaluating alternative radiation sources for the implementation of Sterile Insect Technique to control screwworm flies.
  • Coordinate activities with Dr. Suresh Pillai at the National Center for Electron Beam Research at Texas A&M University and other colleagues at Texas A&M University and the USDA.
  • Coordinate with forensic science colleagues across on a separate project to organize meetings and assist in information seeking activities.
  • Rearing fly colonies
  • Conduct biological assays associated with eBeam, X-ray, and gamma radiation treated blow flies.
  • Assist in basic lab management and insect care, as necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
