About The Position

Act as a Research Associate for STORMWERX laboratory supporting sponsored and internal research efforts across the Advanced Manufacturing facilities at HU. The Research Associate will create and input data for a STORMWERX wide repository along with tracking progress on current projects and maintaining data on previous projects. The research associate will assist the Executive Director in coordinating collaborative research efforts with external research partners.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Manufacturing or Engineering related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in advanced manufacturing or related research discipline.
  • Expertise in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), including a deep proficiency in 3D modeling, and a strong grasp of engineering/design principles.
  • Expertise in Additive Manufacturing or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Manufacturing, including software, firmware, hardware and materials.
  • Expertise in 3D Scanning, including software, firmware and hardware.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in multiple manufacturing technology areas, for example: Additive Manufacturing, Robotic Programming, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Manufacturing, Welding Technologies, Manufacturing Automation, and others.
  • Expertise in Additive Manufacturing of Electronics (AME).
  • Expertise in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems (NEMS) processing.
  • Proven track record of securing grant funding for engineering-related research.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research efforts as assigned by the Executive Director, including internal and external coordination, documentation and presentation of research results.
  • Co-author proposals for grant-funded research opportunities. Co-author peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers.
  • Assist with research conducted by staff, students and faculty, especially related to thermoplastic deposition and photocurable thermosets.
  • Continue education in all manufacturing methods related to STORMWERX needs, to increase capabilities of the lab.
  • Provide guidance to students and student workers on general laboratory work and research projects.
  • Keep accurate records of projects with progress tracking and manage a project dashboard that is displayed in the STORMWERX labs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
