About The Position

Professor Yang Yang’s research group is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead research and development of electrified water treatment technologies under a one-year project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The successful candidate will work on the design and optimization of electrochemical treatment processes for challenging wastewaters, with emphasis on electrode material development, reactor/process engineering, scale-up, and on-site testing. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on funding availability and performance evaluation. General Purpose: To lead research and development of electrified/electrochemical water treatment technologies by designing, optimizing, and scaling reactor and electrode systems, generating high-quality experimental data, and supporting pilot and on-site testing to achieve project deliverables. In addition to your resume/ CV and cover letter please upload one of recommendation letter, from your current employer or supervisor.

Requirements

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience in electrochemical/electrified water treatment, electrode material development, or reactor/process design.
  • Hands-on experience with experimental systems, analytical methods, and data-driven interpretation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative research environment.
  • Strong scientific writing skill and publication records in the related field

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate advanced electrode materials (e.g., fabrication, characterization, and performance testing) for electrified water treatment applications.
  • Design and optimize electrochemical treatment processes, including reactor configuration, operating conditions, and treatment train integration.
  • Conduct bench-scale and pilot-scale experiments to assess treatment performance, robustness, and energy efficiency.
  • Support scale-up activities and participate in field/on-site testing, including system commissioning, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
