About The Position

Provide independent and collaborative support for research by designing, executing, and troubleshooting experiments; collecting, managing, and analyzing data; and performing operational duties associated with laboratory, animal, or human research. This position requires independent thinking, effective project execution, and active participation in laboratory operations, including responsibility for specific mouse lines within the animal colony, experience working with human white blood cells and organization and maintenance of laboratory protocols, and adherence to rigorous data management practices.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent amount of education and experience is required.
  • 1 year of related experience is required.
  • Experience with mouse handling is required.
  • Expertise in flow cytometry, infection models, and/or tumor models is required.
  • Prior experience in manuscript writing/publishing is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise working with the human lymphocyte population, culturing them, and genetically manipulating them is highly desired.
  • Some prior knowledge and experience with whole sequencing transcriptomic methodologies such as RNA Seq and/or scRNA Seq is highly desired.
  • Experience with appropriate statistical tests for human and mouse studies is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research activities related to mouse and human immunology. This includes flow cytometry, infection models, and tumor models.
  • Research literature as requested.
  • Adapt, establish, and perform protocols from the literature.
  • Critically review literature for the purposes of furthering the research and developing new hypotheses in conjunction with the principal investigator.
  • Execution of protocols established in the lab and adaptations and establishments of new protocols related to studies of human lymphocytes and ectopic tumor models.
  • Experimental design and execution to test specific research questions and considerations of appropriate controls.
  • Identify and adhere to Quality Assurance practices to maintain the validity and integrity of research data.
  • Perform appropriate statistical analysis of data and qualitative analysis. Experience with appropriate statistical tests for human and mouse studies is highly desired.
  • Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing data in presentable formats.
  • Preparing reports and contributing to manuscript and review writing, figure generation, and publication. Prior experience in manuscript writing/publishing is required.
  • Participating in grant writing related to projects being conducted in the lab.
  • Present results/findings at team and departmental meetings; presenting at local and national meetings.
  • Make recommendations regarding the validity of research subjects and data.
  • Submit routine IRB, IACUC or similar protocol submissions, if applicable.
  • Responsible for safety programs by following guidelines and maintaining required documentation in support of safety programs.
  • Coordinate and manage equipment and facilities.
  • Monitor environmental risks and quality control.
  • Test new equipment, troubleshoot, and resolve complex equipment failures and repairs.
  • Coordinate software licenses as necessary to complete projects.
  • Provide ongoing training on basic and new lab techniques and protocols for employees.
  • Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to track progress and ensure outcomes are achieved.
  • May participate in training new students and other personnel and managing the performance of trainees to ensure compliance with UI policies and procedures.
